I haven't examined the records myself, so I can't say with any certainty that she really was. And I agree, justice for her came too late, but at least she was finally pardoned! Folks travel down Witchduck Road every day and have no idea it was named for Grace's trial by river ducking! In 2006, Gov. Tim Kaine officially stated her case was a miscarriage of justice (300 years too late!)Kate Louise Woodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14075969374291686407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-37539651727768864912014-03-11T07:14:44.681-05:002014-03-11T07:14:44.681-05:00I'll try again because Blogger is acting stran...I'll try again because Blogger is acting strange, but I meant to say permanent settlement. The English had other colonies, of course, because they were sailing up and down the coast for quite sometime.Kim Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08623744197140598895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-36499945910303306682014-03-11T07:12:42.840-05:002014-03-11T07:12:42.840-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Kim Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08623744197140598895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-91421174193722841342014-03-11T03:25:00.002-05:002014-03-11T03:25:00.002-05:00It sounds fascinating, but Jamestown was not the f...It sounds fascinating, but Jamestown was not the first English settlement in North America. That was my former place of residence, St. John's, Newfoundland, which is known to have been in existence in 1527, 81 years before the founding of Jamestown, when the oldest surviving letter from North America was sent from there on 3rd August by Captain John Rut to King Henry VIII. To put that in historical context, Henry VIII was still married to Catherine of Aragon.Alan Fiskhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05516320333001972924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-12614782254442542112014-03-10T11:14:10.686-05:002014-03-10T11:14:10.686-05:00Thanks for having me stop by, Sarah! Thanks for having me stop by, Sarah!Kim Murphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08623744197140598895noreply@blogger.com
