I read all over the map, though novels set in distant lands - to me, anyway! - are harder to come by. If you're interested in Hawaiian history, I highly recommend the historical novels of Alan Brennert, Honolulu and Moloka'i.

As Meat Loves Salt is another I picked up not too long ago... I didn't do so when the book first came out because its grimness sounded unappealing, but enough people have convinced me to try it anyway.Sarah Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13340312953393474963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-6680001388102209382010-05-15T07:16:34.457-05:002010-05-15T07:16:34.457-05:00I've just finished The Wilding this morning ov...I've just finished The Wilding this morning over coffee in bed :O)
I had started it then laid it aside to read The Book of Human Skin.
I didn't like her previous book, As Meat to Salt but this one I really enjoyed.crothshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09069972891852583031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-79701338991478989772010-05-15T04:35:49.073-05:002010-05-15T04:35:49.073-05:00Thanks for the descriptions of all these books! Don't get me wrong; I love Restoration and Tudor tales. but it's exciting to get a little variety. I'll have to seek out "Bird of Another Heaven" because the little Hawaiian history I picked up on my visit was fascinating. Similarly, I read a ton of Native American- themed historicals growing up, so "Isle of Tears" might provide perspective on the lives of members of another native culture.TWerkheiserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06136917946991614562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19307003.post-12260675887164839922010-05-14T18:48:05.359-05:002010-05-14T18:48:05.359-05:00Maria, Tiger Hills is the one I'm picking up a...Maria, Tiger Hills is the one I'm picking up after I finish the remaining 50 pages of my current read.
